Mystery Basket

Culinary Lab rental fee: $500
Chef fee: $250 per chef per culinary lab
Cleanup/setup fee: $100, plus $35 per person food cost (Maximum of 20 people per culinary lab classroom)

What is it?

A fun, interactive and hands-on cooking experience that provides a wonderful team-building opportunity for groups of up to 80 guests.

Where is it?

Our Mystery Basket team-building challenges take place at the Cooking Teaching Labs inside Miami Dade College’s Miami Culinary Institute located in Downtown Miami. Each of our state-of-the-art commercial kitchens can host 20-plus guests (teams are divided into four groups).

Interested in hosting a large group? Ask about how you can rent out our entire facility, which can accommodate up to 80 guests across four kitchens.

How it works?

During each Mystery Basket challenge, groups have a total of 75 minutes to create an entrée using 10 mystery ingredients from a basket (all baskets include one seafood and one meat product in addition to other ingredients). To make things interesting, each team also receives a different mystery item that they must incorporate into their dish.

Once the teams have completed their entrées, they each have the opportunity to show off their dishes to the assisting chefs, who ultimately select a winner.

All Mystery Challenge events are facilitated by a chef from MCI’s culinary program or our fine dining restaurant Tuyo, as well as a sous chef.


MCI Food and Wine

Food Demonstrations

Demonstration Theater fee: $500-$1,000*
Chef fee: $250
Plus $20 per person (Maximum of 50 people)

The chef will demonstrate and prepare a single dish for guests, with a small tasting included.

Wine Demonstrations

Demonstration Theater fee: $500-$1,000*
Sommelier fee: $200
Plus $45 per person for Level 1 wine tasting or Plus $65 per person for Level 2 wine tasting. Maximum of 50 people. Tasting includes a flight of 6 to 8 wines

Hands-on Cooking

Culinary Lab rental fee: $500
Chef fee: $250 per chef per culinary lab
Plus $35 per person (Minimum of 8 people to maximum of 20 people per culinary lab classroom)

Menus will be created according to guest preferences, including choices such as Caribbean and seafood dishes and pastries. Each guest will prepare one dish with the assistance of our chef.

Top Chef Competition

Culinary Lab rental fee: $500
Chef fee: $250 per chef per culinary lab

Plus $35 per person (Minimum of 8 people to maximum of 20 people per culinary lab classroom)

Guests will be divided into four groups. Each group will receive a mystery food basket and will have one hour to prepare the dish with the assistance of our chef. At the end of the competition, the chef will pick the best dish.

Please note that rates quoted are subject to a 18 percent service charge on food and beverage and 8 percent sales tax applicable to all food, beverage and room rentals.
